These images are all of back of head portraiture which I think it is an abstract and unique approach to a portrait. Usually it is the facial features and expression that are focused on in a portrait as this can tell us a bit about the person and change the feel of the image altogether, therefore I find that back of head photography sometimes creates a sense of mystery. In a lot of back of head photography I have seen, the head is very in focus while the background is blurred to allow depth to be seen, but also so that the focus of the image is remains on the back of head and not the surroundings. I quite like this take on portraiture as it is unusual and simple but can create a very good image against a range of interesting or contrasting backgrounds.

Image Bank - Multiple Imagery
Multiple imagery are when separate images of the same size are put next to each other to create a unique collage. They do not all have to consist of 9 images, and i have seen some with a lot more which are quite abstract and effective. I have seen a range of different approaches to a multiple image, for example some I have seen consist of different photos from different angles, but of the same object like in clock image, yet other multiple images contain photos of different objects or scenes like the third image down. This is different from anything I have looked at in photography before, and I quite like the idea as it comes across quite effective.
Image Bank - Mapplethorpe Portraits
I realised after looking at some of Mapplethorpe's work that very many of his portraits are black and white, and are taken with simple, plain backgrounds. Although this seems very simple, the black and white effect allow the different tones to be clearly shown in the faces, which creates form. Despite this, some of his portraits like the bottom image include blurring, or props to make them more unique and abstract, which I quite like about his photography. Mapplethorpe focusses a lot on composition, and he explores many different ones in his portraiture.

Image Bank - contrast
When I thought of contrast, the first thing that came to mind was contrast between colours, however after looking up contrast in photography I realized that contrast can be shown in a large variety of ways. Its not always the colour in the image that can be contrasting, but other aspects such as big or small, fat or thin, positive or negative etc. I also found pictures that contrsted in more than one way, for example the first image in this image bank. The age of the people in the photo is contrasting, as well as the tones used in this photo, as the outline of highlights contrasts significantly against the shadows at the side of the face. I think this is a creative idea that emphasizes contrast even more.

Image Bank - Potraiture
These six images are all portraits. After looking at portrait photography I realised that most of it is in black and white. This is so that the tones in the face are visible in order to show form. Portrait photography is also often taken very close up so that the features of the face are clear and detailed. Complex backgrounds tend to distract attention away from the main aspect of the photo, the face, so most portrait background are very subtle or blurred out. In some portraits like the photo at the bottom, one specific feature is focused on. The mans face is black and white however his eyes are still coloured, so this is what we focussed on.

Image Bank - Photojoiner
The images are all examples of photojoiner, which is done by putting together different pictures of the same area. The finished photojoiner does not need to look like a realistic image as the individual images overlap, creating a unique abstract look. I quite like this about photojoiner images. I like how the outline of the photo is not sqaure and neat like one single photo would be. They can be made with a few images, or a lot of images and both work to be very effective.
Image Bank - Texture
The images all clearly show texture in photography. I realise that almost all of the images I had found of texture were taken very close up. This is so that the texture is very clear and detailed, and is the focus of the image. I also found a lot of pictures in black and white, so that the different tones can be clearly seen, which emphasises the form so therefore texture is clearer. In my opinion the most effective texture photography is in black and white.

Image Bank - Shape
These images all clearly show the outline of an object. This is mainly shown by contrast between the object and the background. the background is also sometimes blurred so that the shape of the object is more obvious.

Image Bank - Movement
These images all show movement in photography. In most of them, there is a focal point which is the main focus of the image, and then everything around that point is blurred, like the picture of the car mirror and the woman by the tube. I really like the effect of blurring in photography because it is not something that can be seen in real life.
